FourFour2: Which department stores chain is the most popular in Australia?
The answer is the same as it was before Christmas, with the Catherines Department Store of course.
The retailer has been voted the most visited in the country and was ranked first in the Australian Apparel and Footwear category, beating the Australian Woolworths by three places.
FourFour two, which has been operating in the Sydney CBD since 2008, was voted the best department store in the world last year and this year it took the prize for the top five most visited.
It was also voted the top-rated department store on FourFour Two Australia’s top ten list of the country’s best shopping destinations.
It’s no surprise then that FourFour is the second most visited department store of all time in the capital city.
“We have had our fair share of ups and downs and the C&G’s brand has certainly been in the midst of a renaissance, but we have a great relationship with our customers, we have had an incredible response from our clients,” Catherine general manager, Mike Troughton, told FourFour.
“As you might expect, we are very passionate about our customers and how they feel about their experience and that is what makes us special.”
The Catherins’ first store opened in 1885 and has been expanding ever since.
In its most recent location, the store now has five stores and a further two in the area of Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
The store is also the largest department store by volume in Australia and the third largest in the globe, behind the likes of Tiffany and Marks & Spencer.
Catherin is now a subsidiary of The C&AG Group, which is owned by the Chinese government and the second largest in China.
The chain was founded in 1997 and employs over 400 people, according to the Cushnaught Group, a Chinese business news website.
C&C is one of the most successful department stores in the Western world, having recently won an auction to buy the Melbourne office of Marks & Simmons.
Caught in the middle of all this is the new department store.
“The C&GC has always been a part of the Australian community, it’s a part that people have always looked forward to visiting and I think it’s just an exciting time to be a part,” Troughson said.
“It’s an exciting concept, but it’s also a really interesting brand to be part of.”
