RTE 1 / 7 Chatham-Amherst ice cream shops: Closing due to low sales article RTV6 / 6 Chatham’s icecream shop in South Burlington, Vermont is closing this week due to a “toxic” environment.
Owner Mark Fischmann says the Chatham ice cream bar has been in business for 15 years.
It’s closing because “we are so overwhelmed by the number of people who are coming in every day, and we are unable to continue to provide our customers with the quality products they deserve.”
Fischman said the business has seen a drop in sales since the closure was announced.
“We’re losing customers, and I’ve lost employees,” he said.
“It’s very hard to find a good reason to close.”
Faischman told RTV’s Katie Kline that the Chavines’ store has had a tough year and it’s a difficult time for customers.
“The way our economy is going, we’re not going to be able to keep up with all of the changes,” he added.
“But the way we have the store, it’s the perfect environment for our customers to come in and enjoy it.”
We’re trying to take advantage of the fact that our store is just about the middle of town, and our customers can come in, have a taste, and leave.
“Fishman says it will be difficult to sell the ice cream to other businesses because of the low sales.
Fischmans wife, Mary, is the owner of Chavana.
Fichman said that the company is working to find another location.
